Not necessarily. This course is for learners who have studied any beginner-level textbook content or have equivalent knowledge. You can also check the Japanese 104 course page to see if your skills are sufficient. If you’re not sure, take our placement test. If you’re unsure about your speaking skills, email us at [email protected] for more guidance and a personal consultation.
If you’re unsure between 104 and 201, I recommend taking the placement test, or email us at [email protected]. We’ll review your results and recommend the best fit for your goals.
You’ll need Genki Textbook Vol. 2 (3rd edition) and Genki Workbook Vol. 2 (3rd edition). Additional materials, ANKI decks, and PDF resources will be provided in class.
Both — but the main focus is speaking. You’ll learn grammar in context so you can use it naturally in conversation, with plenty of practice in groups, smaller breakout groups, pairs, and in your homework.
All lessons are recorded, and you’ll have lifetime access to the recordings and slides, so you can catch up whenever it’s convenient. You can also book office hours if you have extra questions or want to practice speaking.
Maximum 20–25 students to ensure everyone can participate and get feedback during group and pair work. There will be two or three teachers in each class to make sure you get the support you need.
The course is $985 USD (+ transaction fee) (valued at $2,380 USD).
A payment plan is also available at $197/month for 5 months.
Your enrollment includes 28 hours of live classes, a final 2-hour speaking session with Sayaka, 1-on-1 office hours, weekly speaking and writing homework with personalized feedback (video or PDF), class slides, flashcards, and resources, plus exclusive Discord and offline event invitations.
